PERSONAL TRIBUTE
                                                MAMA’S LAST HOURS

Mama was supposed to die on the 28th of September 2008 on a Sunday morning, but God kept her for a purpose until on the 26th of October 2008 on a Sunday morning before she finally gave up.

Between 28th of September and  26th of October 2008 before she gave up, Mama called me and said that she wanted to tell me some-things because she has short time to stay and do not know if she will have time to tell me this.  Mama told me things that she never told me before. I was frightened with what mama was telling me because all her statements were “please take care of this and that”, “make sure this and that are like this”, “make sure you don’t do this and that, “please do not joke with all these things I am telling you” etc, and it was obvious to me that she will soon leave.

For the first time since my husband and I got married and relocated to Asaba, we decided to go to the village to spend the weekend with her on the 24th of October 2008 but we never knew that we were going to see her for the last time. At about 3:00am on Sunday 26th of October 2008, my husband woke me and was panicking, he said that he had a dream where he saw mama in a hospital bed, with her hair scraped and was putting on white wrapper, and that her condition was very bad.  We both prayed over the dream and by 4:30am, we had a knock on our door that Mama was seriously sick upstairs, my husband and I rushed her to the hospital. We got to the hospital at about 5:00am, her condition was getting worse before the doctor and nurses started administering treatment on her.

Mama was always with a cross in her right hand all through the period she was sick even when she was unconscious, she never left that cross.  The nurses wanted to remove the cross from her right hand to collect her blood for test and to give her injection but she held it so strong that they would not remove it, I told them to leave her because there was nothing they will do to her to leave that cross.  30 minutes before mama gave up; she smiled shortly and started calling Jesus.  Not quite long when she was inhaling the oxygen, the cross fell from her hand and immediately I knew that she was dead because it was only death that would remove that cross from her hand.  She died at about 6:30am.

One of mama’s hobbies was saying the rosary, there is no time you will enter her room, that you will not meet her saying the rosary on her bed.  Mama is equally very generous, even when she was discharged from the hospital and when we went for scanning at Asaba Scan, she dashed out money to the Nurses for their services.

She is a very good mother-in-law, because she treated me like her daughter.
Mama died out of love for her children, she was always thinking about their welfare, their present condition and how things will be better for them.

Mama, though you  died but I shall make sure your wishes are fulfilled.
May your Soul rest in peace.
