Chief (Mrs.) Henrietta Ajuebon-Egbarin, aka Big “H”,
has lost her second son, Festus Uwadia, aged 47 years.
The late Festus Uwadia who was born in Chelsea, London, attended
St. Charles College, Abavo and the prestigious Catering Institute in Nottingham
in the English Midlands.
He qualified as a Chef and has worked in many
distinguished Establishments in the United Kingdom.
About a year ago, he was diagnosed with heart problem
at the Bristol Infirmary in the Western part of Britain and had had treatment to
rectify the situation but unfortunately, his health deteriorated and he died on
June 29, 2012. The Doctor’s report described the cause of death as “Dilated
cardiomyopathy”.
He was buried at Chadwell and St. Mary’s Cemetery, Grays,
Essex, in the Roman Catholic Diocese of
Brentwood; the Reverend Father Brown officiated at the Funeral Service.
There was a strong presence of Agbor and Ika indigenes
at the burial.
The members of the Ika Union of Great Britain and Ireland present were, Vice President
Mrs. Esther Onwuemezie, the Reverend John Ohen, Chief (Mrs.) Gladys Okoh, Ben
Ohen, Mrs. Eunice Ideh, Mrs. Grace Igbinedion, Mrs. Gloria Nosegbe, Mrs.Veronica
Onwudinjo and Mrs. Pat Mason.
The Agbor Daughters Association was represented by their
President, Mrs. Juliet K. Isede, Vice President Mrs. Esther Onwuemezie, Mrs.
Eunice Ideh, Mrs. Veronica Onwudinjo, Mrs. Evelyn Chiejina, nee Agboregbulem
and Mrs Roberta Mordi nee Agoh.
The Agbor Men Association led by their Chairman, Sunny
Onyeagwu and Vice Chairman Chuka Ighade,
included Morgan Ijeh, Patrick Emouh, and John Onwuemezia and George Abbey Aliago.
Other sympathisers were Stella Uwabor, Cliff Anthony,
Henry and Leo Ogbechie and Mrs. Hilary Agholor, Mrs. Sola Adeyeye and Mrs.
Shogbola.
Sylvester Obi Uwadia, elder brother of the deceased,
is a staunch member of the Agbor Men Association.
It would be recalled that Chief (Mrs.) Henrietta who
was a former Commissioner in Delta State is a well-known and highly respected
Philanthropist and passionate Campaigner for Women empowerment in Delta state
in particular and Nigeria in general. She has a Traditional Chieftaincy Title
of Mgbonidein of Agborland.
Left to mourn the deceased also was his sister,
Oghogho Olakunri, my second Cousin, who
was there with her children and her brother, Ike Egbarin.
Members of her husband’s family, the Olakurins, were
also there.
