Azuka Osunde, Ikaworld.com

Thursday, 03.08.2012, 05:20am (GMT+1)

On the 5th of February, 2012, the death of  our able musician, pioneer, god Father, leader, Family head Chief Ucheka Eluhike  was broken to the people of Igbanke and Ika Nation.

With the death of Ucheka (Aruma) Igbanke and her neighbours has lost one of her voices, the man who will be counted among the nobles in the music industry.

Ucheka is a pioneer in Ika music, he started his Sound City Dance Band with the entire Ehuhieke,s  Family of James, Obika, One–Nigeria, Victor Nwanbi, later he was joined by the likes of Felix and his brother of the Ugbekile family, the Eluhike family are from  Omogu  Quarters in Ake-Igbanke, their father, Chief Eluhike was himself a musician, as a youth I can still rememer, how he beat his chest to make a melodies music to the delight of all present.

In the early 80,s  after he had given teeth his brothers, he left Igbanke to live in Boji Boji Agbor, along Baleke Street, thereby exposing his music to the bigger world  and  renamed his group “Ucheka and his Sound City Original”, he became the talk of the town, in all obituary, marriage ceremonies and other big functions, the sound of Ucheka never failed.

Some of Ucheka's  big hits includes: Eni Special, Hensmor International, Kpagile, German Benz and many more too numerous to mention.

As the news of his death broke out, the entire Igbanke and the Ika Nations were full of sadness and most showed their sadness in writings. Some are listed below:

The INPA Igbanke National  Progressive Association, a Facebook group wrote the following in memories of Ucheka:

It is with heavy hearts that the Convener, Board of Directors and the entire members of Igbanke Progressive Alliance join the whole Igbanke and Ika nation to mourn the loss of a great musician, a pioneer in Igbanke and Ika Highlife music, a patriotic Igbanke son and a charismatic musician of our time, Chief Ucheka Eluehike.

We offer our condolences to the Eluehike family and the entire Igbanke and Ika nation. Chief Ucheka Eluhike’s demise is a huge loss to Igbanke and his legacy will forever remain in ourhearts. We pray that God will grant him eternal rest and his family the strength to bear the sad loss.

Chief Ucheka Eluehike and his Sound City Original Band inspired many to embrace Igbanke Highlife music. We pay our respect today to the great and talented Igbanke Highlife musician of all time and call on our Anioma brothers and sisters to join Igbanke and the Eluehike family in mourning at this difficult time.

Other sympathies has the followings to say:

Chuks Osakwe He started the whole music business in igbanke, he was the king of Ika highlife music. R.I.P. CHIEF UCHEKA ELUIHIKE. The father of Igbanke music.

Olufunmi Owota What a great loss! May his Soul Rest in Peace.

Goody Azzun what a great loss! he is indeed a great legacy of Ika music trend. He brought Igbanke into the limelight with his voice.Ucheka nwa Eluehike, omeni wa biazi ozor, ibiazi elu uwa yebiri .......this was one of his sentimental messages to the deceased!

Emeka Esogbue Unfortunately, the vacuum created by his loss will be hard to fill. My condolences to all.

Augustine Daniel Omodolor The death of the king of high-life is a shock news and we pray that his soul rest in perfect peace

Duke Igbinedion what an irreplaceable loss of our dear musical icon. Though you are departed, the unsurpassable standard of your music cannot be chiselled out of the hearts of your admirers. may the Almighty God grant you a peaceful rest.

Smart Adagbon I love ucheka,s  music when I was in the village. He is a talented musician, I will miss his music, may God be with his family at this difficult time. R.I.P.
Success Ehima CHIFE UCHEKA ELUEHIKE WE THE ELUEHIKE FAMILY MISS YOU SO MUCH BECAUSE YOU ARE A HERO TO US, AND WE PROMISE TO WORK WITH YOUR LEGACY, GRAND PA, DADDY, UNCLE AND FATHER OF IKA MUSIC WE LOVE YOU BUT YOU GONE TOO SOON.

Dangote awards 8 pupils of Jim Ovia's school Scholarship

Africa's wealthiest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote has awarded scholarships to 8 students of James Hope college, Agbor, Delta state.

The school was founded by Business mogul and fellow billionaire, Jim Ovia(Visafone and Cyberspace). The scholarships will cover the pupils' duration in school.

Ovia praised Dangote for his support and inspirational visit to the school. He also added this;

“James Hope College is not a school for the rich, but a full school that could give opportunities to those who do not have the resources to afford quality education. They would be allowed to enjoy some scholarship programmes. This means that a little boy, or girl from a less-privileged home can join those who have the resources in a high standard education in James Hope College.
The pupils will be given scholarships to study in the school, if they are brilliant. At least, about 35 per cent of the students will have one form of scholarship or the other; it’s either full scholarship, or partial scholarship,”
