it pisses me off when i see and hear some of my ika compatriots turn simple logic upside down simply to suite an ill-defined preconceived notion.

the names of our villages, fathers, and great-grand fathers, etc. are ibo names. our language is ibo. we communicate even if with some effort with all manner of ibo 'strangers' from anywhere without first having to learn their dialet. we do not speak edo except it is learnt, despite the proximity.

apart from written records, the first and authentic factor that idenfifies a group of people with another group is the language. other historical factors could be distorted for several reasons.

i do not share in this defeatist notion of shamelessly denying our roots. any meaningful gain?

as an ekwuoma man, i am an ibo from delta state, simple.

You are certainly entitled to your ideas and opinions. Just be careful about inflaming passions when you use words like the P word and "ill-defined".

You can always make your point using the correct and polilte language. This is a forum for sharing ideas and you won't get anywhere if you lash out at people.

I hope the point is taken.

my dear mr. ocheche: your brotherly counsel is well received. i am sorry if i have ruffled some feathers by reacting the way i did. what i felt very bad about is the narrowness of even some of our intellectuals in approaching this question of who we are.  being dispassionately holistic and common-sensical in approach pays us a lot of dividend. the natural law of reciprocity holds that if you call me yours i will call you mine. in a few hours, i will upload my pics and profile.

god bless.

No, I am not aware you ruffled any feathers. I responded because it is my job to keep the peace before it gets out of hand.

WELL  ,  I  WILL  LIKE TO SAY TO MY BROTHER THAT ,I DO  NOT BELIEVE  THAT IT IS JUST EASY  FOR HIM TO DISMISS ALL EVIDENCES  AND TRADITIONS REGARDING IKA ORIGIN AND TO JUST SIMPLIFY IT TO  SAY WE  ARE  IBOS BASED ON THE  LANGUAGE THEORY, LANGUAGE ALONE DO  NOT TELL  THE  ORIGIN  OF A PEOPLE .TO  KNOW THE  HISTORY OF A PEOPLE AS  COMPLEX AS  IKA  NATION , A  LOT  HAVE TO  BE  CONSIDERED , WHILE  I  AGREE THAT  NOT  ALL IKA PEOPLE COME FROM THE  SAME PLACE. CHECK THE HISTORY  OF THE DIFFERENT QUARTERS  OR VILLAGES AND THEY WILL TELL YOU WHERE THE FOUNDERS  COME FROM.

TO  KNOW THE  HISTORY OF A PEOPLE YOU ALSO NEED TO  CONSULT WITH ELDERS , I MEAN  OLD MEN WHO ARE  CUSTODIANS OF TRADITIONS, HAS  MY BROTHER  CONSULTED THEM WHAT DID THEY TELL YOU    WAS THE  THE HISTORY OF  IKA PEOPLE ?

DID  YOU  VISIT  ANY  OF OUR ROYAL  FATHERS TO GIVE YOU THE HISTORY OF  IKALAND?

HAVE  YOU  CHECKED THE  ARCHIVES AND  INTELLIGENCE REPORTS WRITTEN DURING THE  COLONIAL  ERA  ?

TAKE  A  LOOK  AT  THIS  , IN THE  LATE  16TH CENTURY , THERE WAS A  DUTCH  HISTORIAN CALLED  NYANDEL WHO  VISITED AND  LIVED  IN AGBOR , LISTEN  TO WHAT HE WROTE IN HIS DIARY AND  HISTORY NOTE, HE  SAID " WAVES OF FAMILIES  MOVING  OR MIGRATING FROM BENIN AND  SETTLING INTO  AGBOR ,WHAT  DOES THAT TELL YOU  ? WAS  HE GIVING A FALSE MESSAGE ?

IN  1888  , THE ORDERLY OF OBI OF  UTE-OKPU  WROTE IN HIS DIARY THAT  UTE  MIGRATED FROM BENIN  , HIS NAME  WAS  OMORDIA , WAS  HE GIVING A FALSE INFORMATION TOO?

WHAT  DO  YOU  THINK  OF  OUR  CULTURE AND RELIGIOUS TRADITION OF  OBSERVING  IGUE ?  WHAT  ABOUT  OLOKUN , OVIA , OZUN  AND OTHER WORSHIP  IS IT  IGBO  OR  BENIN  ?

TAKE  A  LOOK  AT  YORUBA  LANGUAGE  IS IT THE  SAME WITH  BENIN OR  EDO LANGUAGE   ?  NO  , THEY  ARE  DIFFERENT , BUT HAVE PUSSED TO  ASK  WHY  YORUBA  CONSIDER BENIN TO  BE THEIR RELATIVES AND  BROTHER  BORN FROM THE  SAME  ODUDUWA  ?

DO  YOU  KNOW THAT  LATIN  WAS  ONCE A  GREAT WORLD  LANGUAGE AND  NOW IT IS  ALMOST  EXTINCT  ? DO  YOU KNOW LANGUAGES ARE SUBJECT TO  CHANGE EVERY 500 YEARS  ?

LOOKING AT  MY VERSION OF IKA HISTORY , I  AM  PROUD TO SAY I AM  IKA AND THAT IS ALL  , IN MY FAMILY WE HAVE ALMOST  700 YEARS  OF OUR GENEOLOGY  KEPT AND  I KNOW WHERE MY FORE FATHERS  COME FROM .

I AGREE THAT  THERE WERE  SO  MANY  MIGRATIONS  INTO  IKA  LAND , SOME FROM ISHAN, BENIN , OGWASHI, ONITSHA , AND OTHER PLACES  IN ANAMBRA, EVEN YORUBA LAND , CHECK UMUNEDE HISTORY FOR YORUBA MIGRATIONS INOT  IKA LAND , PEOPLE CAME FROM UKWANI AREA TOO, THAT IS WHY WE HAVE MANY TYPES  OF WORSHIP;  FROM DIFFERENT AREAS ,IKA IS ACTUALLY A  CONGLOMERATION  OF MANY  CULTURES .APART FROM IGBO AND BENIN INFLUENCE THERE IS ALSO  THE IKA CULTURE WHICH  IS VERY  ANCIENT AND THAT NEEDS  A LOT OF RESEARCH WORK TOO

ALL  I  KNOW  NOW IS THAT  I  AM  IKA  AND THAT  IS GOOD  ENOUGH .

Well, I don't regard myself as Igbo despite the fact our languages are similar. but still we don't behave d same. our tradition differs. we are IKA people and not IGBOS.

Looking at it all,  the Ikas have a unique culture and ways of doing our things. Language does determine ones origin. Now, look at it this way, I speak Ika and my entire village does same but the village is located in Edo sate where every other community around it speaks Edo. <IRU> to be precise. where do i tell d world that i come from? EDO or Delta?
