Please post your comments and suggestions on the Administrators blog on the future of Ikaworld.com here. Please keep all comments constructive.

The main questions are: how do we secure the future of our community online? What are we as individuals ready to do?

Lets merge ideas with implementation.

SOLUTION TO OUR PROBLEMS AT IKAWORLD.COM: GIVE US YOUR SKILL

Since Ikaworld is a non-profit institution I would appreciate it iif people with the skills below will join us by donating their skills. This will get us out of the woods.

There is no salary for the jobs below. You will be helping us save Ikaworld.com by donating your skills.

1 PROGRAMMER (php, Java, css, database)

A person with a good programming skill. You must a good coder and know PHP language like the back of your hand. You must be creative and ready to try new ways of doing things. You must be flexible and ready to give about 5 hours per week to Ikaworld.com when call upon.

1 WEB DESIGNER (html, css, java, flash)

A person who knows HTML like the back of his/her hand. You must also know flash as well as have a good understanding of JAVA and css. You should be ready to give your time when we call on you since design work is not a continuous process. Note that when there is work to do, it may demand a good number of hours of your time. You can plan around it.

2 ADMINISTRATORS WITH HTML SKILLS

Two persons with administrative skills  and some knowledge of HTML (you do not need to be experts but should know how to use the codes). Must have very good command of English language. Must be able to respect people's privacy and NEVER REVEAL DETAILS OF MEMBERS no matter what your opinion is. Each administrator must be ready to give a minimum of 10 - 14 hours a week (about 2 hours daily).

For all the positions above the interested persons must have unrestricted internet access and can work online at odd times since they may also have their full time jobs.

If we get through this phase there will be plenty of News to be put up as Ikaworld.com is already in talks with a newspaper company to provide indepth Ika news from Ika area. This means the administrators and the Designer will be constantly busy especially during the weekends.

Finally, if you are interested in giving us the skills above, you will have to present to us to an Ika person with good reference among ika people in his/her environment (perhaps an Ika Union) to give you a reference or vouch for your integrity. What goes on at Ikaworld demands 100% integrity and respect. YOUR COMMITTMENT WILL BE REVIEWED YEARLY. So please make sure you settled enough to plan for the next 12 months.

Any interested person should post a reply in this forum and state which job you are interested in. The admin will then decide to contact you. We want you committment to be public since we are assuming you will be working for all Ika people.

**Please do not send the admin (me) a PM or mail. Just post a public reply here. This is a community, so let us all be part of this process. Reply here in the forum.

It depends on the job you are interested in. For the administration aspect there must be a daily presence at the forum. No specific time.

The design and programming aspects have no regular schedule either. But we do have emergencies with servers or security vulnerabilities every now and then. So persons handling this have to be connected even when on the road. For instance, our current programmer is on a two month vacation in India from the USA. He was working here today because there was an emergency. Anyway, tech people know what I mean.

Please feel free to ask more questions. I will respond.

Before I read the administrator's plea for donation of skills, I was wondering how the website's (ikaworld.com) being run and maintained. The cost for IT personnel does not really come cheap in every sense of it.

I will enjoin anyone who can contribute to please give us this day our daily ikaworld. Sometimes we may never appreciate what we have until we lose it. Well, the importance of keeping this site alive and bubbly cannot be overemphasised.

'Dodo orieka'. Please let us do what we can to keep to keep this 'uhaygbe' working. I donnot think the webmaster has more to gain than the rest of us for keeping this site. I trust my people 'ndi ika gi onunu kpor ogwa'. We can all still help in different areas. We can all rub minds and use our Ika high sense of initiative to know where to fit in. Let us not tuck ourselves in it may not help where we can.

I am still cutting my teeth in the computing world, but we can discuss offline and let me know where and how I can help. At least I have a smattering knowledge of the mentioned areas. I need to be confident and positive, practice they say, make perfect, don't they?

Thank you all for the good work you are all doing. Keep it up. Onye ku ehen weh mene si weh mene ozu. Hope my Ika is not to coarse, the influence of a colonised psyche. Excuse you call it?

Regards.

Ike

Nwa ebon Ike, I am impressed by your eloquence. Please consider yourself hired (no salary at least for now and i am not sure of the future yet). Anyway, I would want you in the site's administrative department. I think we can make better use of your skills in a broader area. You will be assisting me. The admin job is here and there. We have: Newsletters planning and preparation, daily members profile reviewing, monitoring of blogs and responses, approving pictures for members gallery daily, News updating, scanning the www for any Ika related news (along with Mr. Azuka Osunde who has his hands full with his new baby), and .... Yes, there is crowd and language managment to keep the temperature low among members and keep the peace as we have been doing and I can see that this is up your lane. There are other areas I can't list now. Ohhh, in addition, you will be expected to generate articles every now and then for the article sections. You will decide what you want to write about so long as it is about Ika land. Don't worry about the number of things mentioned. I will be there all the way, 24/7, with you.

Please call me (tel. nr. will be sent) so we can plan when you can start.

Yes, over time, you will begin to try your hands on the scripts too. Currently we have a good russian programmer (Roman) who has been doing great jobs for us. There will have to be a smooth transition in the programming area if any has to happen.

You will be a wonderful addition to Ikaworld.com. Pls get in touch.
